Time to treat yourself

Devon is the perfect place to experience a relaxing spa in incredible locations. From coastal retreats to countryside well-being we visit some of our favourite places to unwind and tune out.

We are so lucky, here in Devon, to have such a wide choice when it comes to spas and treatments venues. Many are part of luxury hotels so you can extend your experience from a relaxing day to a decadent weekend, or combine it with lunch or afternoon tea for a foodie treat. More and more, Devon spas are becoming the destination of choice for those wanting to switch off but still enjoy a spectacular location, and there is a significant amount of investment being made to ensure these spas are up there with the very best.

North Devon is home to the Woolacombe Bay Hotel and Haven Spa. Whether you are drawn by the call of the Atlantic ocean or want to explore the rugged beauty of Exmoor National Park, Woolacombe Bay offers a base from which to explore and enjoy a relaxing retreat on your return. Inspired by the views and the fresh smell of the sea air, treatments are designed to nourish and soothe. If you’re feeling energetic then you can take advantage of the Hothouse Health Club before placing yourself in the hands of one of the expert spa therapists, who will be able to soothe aching muscles and quieten busy minds.

Dart Marina Hotel’s spa offers holistic and luxurious treatments in stunning surroundings by the River Dart. For the energetic there is a fitness suite and pool, while for those looking for a less frenetic pace, a soak in the hot tub or breathing in the sweet fragrance of the steam room is sure to energise and refresh. Treatments range from traditional body wraps and massages to the more exotic tropical ‘Saltmousse Glow’ and ‘Moor Mud Back Ritual’ and with such a stunning riverside location, it’s hard to leave. So, you’ll be glad you don’t have to – spa breaks are available for a single or multiple night’s stay.

Beautifully situated on the Devon coast you can relax at the Salcombe Harbour Hotel and Spa just by taking in the magnificent coastal views. Add to this five treatment rooms, an indoor pool, hydrotherapy pool, sauna and crystal steam room and you have the perfect combination for some serious pampering, after which you can envelop yourself in a fluffy bathrobe and relax with either a light lunch or a delicious afternoon tea. Treatments use a selection of HarSPA products, made using naturally sourced marine elements and botanicals, and range from a traditional Hawaiian massage to an ocean-inspired sea salt body exfoliation.

Cary Arms and Spa is an example of one of Devon’s finest boutique hotels, combining classic English inn style with modern luxury. The glass-fronted Spa On the Beach lives up to its name so you can relax in an almost ‘toes in the water’ location. A waterfall hydrotherapy pool and exotic experience shower enhance the waterside experience. After you’ve enjoyed a treatment from the carefully chosen Thalgo selection, you can relax on the sunbathing terrace that boasts spectacular sea views and is decorated with a private collection of exclusive American Art illustrations. Whether you simply enjoy a treatment or extend your stay with a ‘Dip’n’Dine’ experience, you’re sure to leave here relaxed and rejuvenated.

The Voyage Spa at the Thurlstone Hotel is a jewel on the south Devon coast. An idyllic retreat in itself, the spa offers a wonderful place to unwind for hotel guests as well as welcoming day visitors across Devon, so you don’t need to travel far to experience a little piece of luxury. The wide range of spa packages on offer means you can stay for a few just a few hours or luxuriate for longer. Products from Decléor create the ultimate relaxation experience and the signature Voyage Spa Ocean Escape, taking inspiration from the ocean, is a
top-to-toe ritual that is designed to relax aching muscles and calm the mind.

Aztec Spa in Torbay is a place where you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Offering a range of treatments from British luxury skincare brand Elemis you can extend the indulgence from a single treatment to a spa package or overnight spa break. You can chill out with friends in the relaxation area or take advantage of the 25-metre indoor pool and free form pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. The Aztec Bistro serves lunch or afternoon tea as well as nibbles and bubbles on the fun ‘Girls’ Night In’ package.
