YOKE The Salon combines the talent of husband and wife team Jo and Steve Barker to give you the ultimate hair styling experience.
Look out for new kid on the hairdressing block, YOKE The Salon. Based in Plymouth, Yoke is run by husband and wife team Jo and Steve Barker. This power couple bring over 30 years of experience to the table, and have worked in salons all over the world. The name ‘Yoke’ derives from the act of joining two things together, as the couple have fused their talents to create this modern and inviting salon. In broader terms, the ethos of the company is to collaborate as a team and produce outstanding creative work; as well as doing their bit to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

Steve is a precision cutting specialist with over 17 years of experience working in some of the UK’s top salons, and Jo is the salon’s head colourist. Jo holds the highly sought after L’Oreal Colour Specialist qualification, which she tells us will be hard to find anywhere else in the city. The couple swear by major hair brand L’Oreal, and are proud to exclusively use the very best products on the market. Jo tells us: “when we first started planning Yoke we dreamed about being a L’Oreal salon. The salon is located in The Royal William Yard, which plays host to some of the city’s best dining, creative and event spaces. So, you can couple your luxury hair appointment with a long lunch and a stroll around this historic area. The interior is bright and spacious with light wooden floors and big windows that look out over the yard. Jo and Steve’s vision is to create a clean, light and creative space that’s easy and fluid to work in whilst also feeling spacious and inviting for their clients.
